Limber Creative helps spawn collaborative studio environment

by Chris Arnold on May 26, 2010

Roughly 20 months ago, two independent design firms decided to share in studio space to cut costs and engage in a collaborative working environment. Flash forward to modern day, add in a freshly rehabbed studio space in downtown Edgewater, Colorado, and suddenly the "Collaboratory" studio space we reside in on a daily basis became much more than it once was.

With the hope and goal of promoting collaboration amongst fellow creative minds, the three businesses who now share the studio—525creative, Artletic, and Limber Creative—came up with a vision to bring through creative talent once a month.

Limber Creative jumped at the chance to concept for this new project, drawing from turn-of-the-century typography and a mindset that the history of downtown Edgewater should be kept alive. Careful not to generate too much of a modern flavor in such a historical area, the final design was a rebirth of traditional advertising styles: through type selection, imagery, and visual cues.

As the recently launched LetsCollab.org website explains, "We believe that meeting new creatives and sparking thoughtful conversation is a must. Encouraging knowledge sharing and different viewpoints is why Collaboratory exists in the first place."

The concept itself is pretty simple: Once a month, up to two creatives are welcome to join us by taking up "laptop space" on our conference table. These individuals will have a typical business day: calls, emails, and all of the norms that come with it. All the while, we'll converse, lend a helping hand to one another, grab a bite to eat, and see where the day takes us.

Our feeling is that if we can meet 5, 10, or 25 new people over the course of a few months and years, we're connecting with that many more intelligent, exciting minds. It betters our business, our skills, and our creative outlets. Do you want to join us, too?
